TRUST CONVERSATION: MAKOTO FUJIMURA

November 6, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Makoto Fujimura, an artist and writer, will lecture on his current thesis for his new book on Culture Care.

Do we need beauty in our lives? When faced with crisis and limited resources how do we cultivate and care for our souls and the larger culture?

In his presentation, Mako will share from his experience as an artist and founder of International Arts Movement, about his journey away from Culture Wars toward the concept of Culture Care, and how artists can play a key role in caring for our culture.

“Culture is not a territory to be won: It is instead a resource to steward…Culture Care restores beauty as a seed of invigoration into the ecosystem of culture. Such soul care is generative: a well-nurtured culture becomes an environment in which people and creativity thrive.” (On Becoming Generative: An Introduction to Culture Care).

Makoto’s art will be displayed in The Trust’s own Square Halo Gallery, made possible by First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster PA.  FPClogo - exhibit sponsor logo
