FRIDAY, MARCH 9 at 7:30 PM
Mezzo-soprano, Samantha Hankey will perform famous arias with one of New York’s most respected pianists, Timothy Long. Grand Finals winner of the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and First Prize winner of the Dallas Opera Guild Competition, Samantha Hankey has been acclaimed by Opera News as an “ingenious square-shouldered beauty with a maple-flavored mezzo” and as “serious and penetrating” by The New York Times.
Soon after graduating from The Juilliard School, Hankey made her Carnegie Hall debut and performed in the Merola Opera Program. This past season, Hankey made her European debut as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Den Norske Opera. She also made her debut at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as Siébel in Faust. Continuing to make a name for herself in the opera world, Hankey will make her debut with the Metropolitan Opera in its 18/19 Season.
Long has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as a pianist, conductor, opera coach, and educator. His early training as a pianist and violinist led to his work with singers, and eventually to operatic engagements with companies such as New York City Opera, Opera New England, the Brooklyn Philharmonic and many others. He has also participated in summer festivals including Aspen Music Festival and School, the Moab Music Festival, and the Mostly Mozart Festival, to name a few. The Lancaster community knows Timothy Long as the music director and co-founder of Voices of Hope, an annual concert that benefits the Global Family Fund of the Mennonite Central Committee.
