Trust Concert: New York Polyphony

February 17, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

New York Polyphony.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17 at 7:30 PM &
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18 at 7:30 PM

After selling out previous years performances, GRAMMY-nominated a cappella quartet, New York Polyphony, returns to The Trust on February 17 and 18.   Praised for a “rich, natural sound that’s larger and more complex than the sum of its parts,” (National Public Radio) New York Polyphony is regarded as one of the finest vocal chamber ensembles in the world.

Known to enamor audience members with sophisticated programming that fuses the ancient with modern, New York Polyphony will perform a program that includes the world premiere of Gregory Spears’ The Bitter Good. This piece was written for New York Polyphony with commissioning funding from Chamber Music America.  The group’s baritone, Christopher Herbert, researched the music of Ephrata. As he did so, he uncovered, studied, and catalogued 122 music manuscripts created by the solitary brethren and sisters of the eighteenth-century Ephrata Cloister. One of his noteworthy findings was to prove that the sisters wrote some of the music, making them the first known female composers in the Americas. Spears wrote this new work for New York Polyphony based on Herbert’s research and using texts by various Cloister members. Christopher Herbert will provide a 45 minute pre-concert lecture on Monday at 6:15 PM.

OPUS 3 Artists is the exclusive North American Booking Representative of New York Polyphony.
