FRIDAY, MARCH 13 at 7 PM
We all cultivate certain habits, schedules, and loves using our bodies. That’s liturgy, baby.
In his recent book Dr. Johnson discusses “the power of rituals, habits, and sacraments” in a time when some of us are thirsting for better practices to guide our lives.
He will suggest that since we all are creatures of habit, we might want to consider whether our habits are good ones.
- What kinds of religious liturgies can slake our thirst for meaning?
- What sort cultural rituals lead us to love our neighbors better?
- What type of disciplines tend toward human flourishing?
- Which ones merely compound injustice, abuse, and complacency?
We hope you’ll join us for a challenging and informative evening with someone who is in deep, both with current culture and ancient paths of biblical wisdom.
Bring your friends and questions. Expect great coffee and tremendous treats. Stay as long as you want just for the heck of it.
Dru Johnson is an associate professor of biblical and theological studies and director of the Center for Hebraic Thought at The King’s College in New York City.
Before that, he was a high-school dropout, skinhead, punk rock drummer, combat veteran, IT supervisor, and pastor—all things that he hopes none of his children ever become.
