What’s Gnosticism? It’s a nasty business, trust us. It’s a worldview that denies the inherent good of the created order. Christianity, on the other hand, affirms such an inherent goodness while at the same time acknowledging that it is damaged goods.
Our task as humans, then, is to participate in God’s restoration project of all things, starting with the human experience. That’s what Jesus is all about. From that starting point, community, art, and meals are uber-important for showing the world that God cares intimately for all that He has made, especially people.
To flesh out this world-embracing path of faith, Matthew will provide a glimpse of the Inklings’ perspective on earthly matters as seen in Tolkien’s writings.
